Karly-Marina Loaiza, also known as Kali Uchis (/utis/ OO-chees), is a Colombian-American singer and composer. She was born on July 17, 1994. Drunken Babble, her first mixtape, was released in 2012; it was followed by Por Vida, her first EP, in 2015. Isolation, Uchis’ first studio album, was widely praised when it was released in 2018. Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios), Uchis’ second studio album and her first work in Spanish, was published in 2020. The single “Telepata” from the album became Uchis’ first solo smash to chart on the US Billboard Hot 100. She was featured on Kaytranada’s tune “10%,” for which she received a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.
On August 1, 2012, Uchis released her debut mixtape, Drunken Babble, shortly after graduating. The “genre-defying” mixtape was praised for its doo-wop, reggae, and early 2000s R&B inspirations. Rapper Snoop Dogg and she worked together on the song “On Edge” for his mixtape That’s My Work 3 in 2014.
