Corgan and Chamberlin regrouped in 2006 to create Zeitgeist, a brand-new Smashing Pumpkins album. Chamberlin quit the group at the beginning of 2009 after traveling for the entirety of 2007 and 2008 with a lineup that included new guitarist Jeff Schroeder. Later that year, Corgan launched a new recording project called Teargarden by Kaleidyscope with a changing cast of artists. The series included stand-alone singles, EP releases, and two full albums that were also included in the project: Oceania in 2012 and Monuments to an Elegy in 2014. 

In February 2018, Chamberlin and Iha formally rejoined the group. Shiny & Oh So Bright, Vol. was issued by the lineup upon their reunion. No Past, 1 / LP Not a Future. No Sun. (2018), Cyr (2020), and Atum: A Rock Opera in Three Acts are slated for release in three installments over the course of 2022 and 2023.
