The National is an American rock group from Cincinnati, Ohio that was founded in Brooklyn, New York City, in 1999[1]. Band members include Matt Berninger on vocals, Aaron and Bryce Dessner, twin brothers, on guitar, keyboards, and bass, Scott and Bryan Devendorf, on drums (drums). Matt Berninger’s wife, Carin Besser, has collaborated with her husband on the lyrics for the band since the release of Boxer in 2007.
The National’s self-titled debut album, The National (2001), was released on Brassland Records, an independent record company established by Aaron Dessner and his twin brother, Bryce Dessner. The National was founded by Matt Berninger, Aaron Dessner, Scott Devendorf, and Bryan Devendorf. Bryce, who had helped record the album, shortly became a full member of the group and took part in the recording of its follow-up, Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers (2003).
