Oliver Tree Nickell, an American musician, record producer, and comedian, was born on June 29, 1993. Tree, a California native who was raised in Santa Cruz, signed with Atlantic Records in 2017 following the success of his song “When I’m Down,” and in 2020 he will release his debut studio album, Ugly Is Beautiful. His songs “Life Goes On” and “Miss You” brought him fame on a global scale in 2021 and 2022, respectively. On February 18, 2022, he issued his second studio album, Cowboy Tears.
In 2010, Oliver debuted as “Tree” for his solo recording career. He had already delivered opening speeches for acts like Skrillex and Zeds Dead by that point. He initially self-released his music, but in 2011 he agreed to a deal with R&S Records. His debut performance was with the ska group Irony, where he sang and played guitar. For a brief time, Tree produced dubstep and appeared at events like Wobbleland 2011 in San Francisco under the alias Kryph. Under the alias Tree, he recorded music and opened performances for artists including Tyler, the Creator, Nero, and Frank Ocean.
