Hozier (/hozir/ HOH-zee-r), a stage name for Andrew John Hozier-Byrne, is an Irish musician, singer, and songwriter. He was born on 17 March 1990. His music frequently incorporates literary and theological themes and generally pulls from folk, soul, and blues. After releasing his debut single “Take Me to Church,” which has received a multi-platinum certification in various nations, he experienced success on a global scale.
County Wicklow native Hozier, whose debut EP was published in 2013, included the song “Take Me to Church,” which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and went on to become a rock radio smash in the United States. To rave reviews, his debut studio album was published in March 2014. It has received a multi-platinum certification in numerous nations including 6 platinum certifications in Ireland. He released an EP called Nina Cried Power in September 2018, with the title track serving as the EP’s first single and peaking at number one on the Billboard Adult Alternative Songs list. Wasteland, Baby!, his second album, was released. which went gold in the U.S. in March 2019 and debuted at the top of the Irish Albums Chart and the Billboard 200.
Later, in 2015, “Take Me to Church” received a Song of the Year nomination at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. He sang the song with Annie Lennox at the awards ceremony and again at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards. He received the fan-voted VH1 Artist of the Year award on November 12, 2015. He and singer Tori Kelly gave performances of “Take Me to Church” and “Blackbird” by The Beatles at the ceremony. The song “Better Love” by Hozier was included in the Legend of Tarzan soundtrack in June 2016. After touring his debut album, Hozier took a one-year break from music and returned to Ireland to “reconnect.”
