American rock group Death Cab for Cutie was founded in Bellingham, Washington, in 1997. Members of the group now include Ben Gibbard on vocals, guitar, and piano, Nick Harmer on bass, Dave Depper on guitar and keyboards, Zac Rae on keyboards, and Jason McGerr on guitar (drums).
After signing a record deal, Gibbard transformed the band from its initial solo endeavor into a full-fledged unit. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1998. Transatlanticism, the band’s fourth album released in 2003, became a critical and commercial success, and several TV shows and movies have used its songs. Plans, the band’s 2005 major label debut for Atlantic Records, achieved platinum status. Asphalt Meadows, the group’s eleventh and most recent studio album, was made available on September 16, 2022. The music of Death Cab for Cutie has been categorized as alternative rock, indie rock, and indie pop. The group has released four EPs, two live EPs, one live album, and one demo album in addition to its ten full-length studio albums.
