Kelendria Trene Rowland, an American singer, actress, and television personality, was born on February 11, 1981. As a member of Destiny’s Child, one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, she gained notoriety in the late 1990s. Rowland’s debut solo studio album, Simply Deep (2002), was released during the group’s three-year break and debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart while selling more than 3 million copies globally. It included the top-charting single “Dilemma” (with Nelly) on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as the top-five successes “Stole” and “Can’t Nobody” in the UK. Rowland has dabbled in acting, appearing as the lead in the popular movies The Seat Filler and Freddy vs. Jason (2003). (2005).
Rowland has sold more than 40 million albums as a solo artist over her career and an additional 60 million copies with Destiny’s Child. She has received several honors and accolades for her work, including two Soul Train Music Awards, one Billboard Music Award, and five Grammy Awards. As a member of Destiny’s Child, Rowland also got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and as a solo performer, she was recognized for her contributions to music by Essence and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers. Rowland was named 20th on Fuse’s list of the “100 Most Award-Winning Artists” in 2014.
