Enrique “Ricky” Martin Morales (born December 24, 1971) is a Puerto Rico singer, composer, and actor. He is well-known for his musical diversity, having a record that includes Latin pop, mainstream, dance, reggaeton, and salsa. He is known as the “King of Latin Pop,” the “King of Latin Music,” and the “Latin Pop God.” He is widely acknowledged as one of the world’s most influential singers. Martin, born in San Juan, began appearing in television advertisements at the age of nine and started his musical career at the age of twelve as a member of the Puerto Rican boy band Menudo.
He launched his solo career in 1991 while signed to Sony Music Mexico, quickly garnering notoriety in Latin America with the release of his first two studio albums, Ricky Martin (1991) and Me Amaras (1993), both of which were ballad-focused.
Martin has subsequently become a pop sensation and a sex symbol, recording multiple hit albums, including all-time Latin bestsellers Almas del Silencio (2003) and MTV Unplugged (2006), as well as Grammy Award winner A Quien Quiera Escuchar. (2015). He has also had several popular singles and chart-toppers, including “She Bangs”, “Nobody Wants to Be Lonely”, “Tal Vez”, “Tu Recuerdo”, “La Mordidita”, “Vente Pa’ Ca” and “Canción Bonita”.
