The Pussycat Dolls were an American girl group and dance company that choreographer Robin Antin established in 1995 in Los Angeles, California, as a burlesque outfit. Jimmy Iovine advised Antin to take the burlesque act mainstream by making them a pop group. The group, which included Nicole Scherzinger, Carmit Bachar, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, Melody Thornton, and Kimberly Wyatt, became a music franchise in 2003 after Antin obtained a record deal with Interscope Geffen A&M Records. Shall We Dance?, a 2004 movie, had their first hit, “Sway,” on the soundtrack.
