Rapper Playboi Carti, born Jordan Terrell Carter on September 13, 1996, is from the United States. Prior to joining ASAP Mob’s AWGE Label under Interscope Records, Carter was formerly signed to the regional underground label Awful Records. Carter gained national recognition in 2017 after beginning his career with a cult fanbase. In April 2017, Carter released his first mixtape, which featured the Billboard Hot 100 hits “Magnolia” and “Woke Up Like This” (featuring Lil Uzi Vert). Die Lit (2018), his first studio album, landed at number 3 on the US Billboard 200. Carter’s much-awaited second album, Whole Lotta Red (2020), debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and marked his first chart-topping release after a two-year layoff during which little to no new music was released.
Carter is well-known for using the “baby voice” style, which is marked by high-pitched voice peaks, garbled pronunciations, and frenzied cadences. On well-known tracks like “Almeda” with Solange, “Earfquake” with Tyler, the Creator, and “Pissy Pamper” with Young Nudy and Pi’erre Bourne, he has employed this method.
According to the New York Times, Carti appeared to be “more at ease with the performance of the part than with the actual act of rapping” during his performance.
