Richard Melville Hall (born September 11, 1965) is an American musician, composer, performer, producer, and animal rights campaigner better known as Moby. He has sold over 20 million albums globally. According to AllMusic, he was “among the most important dance music figures of the early 1990s, helping bring dance music to a mainstream audience both in the US and the UK.”
He relocated to New York City in 1989 and quickly rose to prominence as a DJ, producer, and remixer. His 1991 song “Go” was his popular breakthrough, particularly in Europe, where it charted in the top 10 in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Between 1992 and 1997, he had eight Billboard Dance Club Songs chart top ten songs, including “Move (You Make Me Feel So Good),” “Feeling So Real,” and “James Bond Theme (Moby Re-Version).” During the decade, he also recorded songs under several aliases, including the highly acclaimed Everything Is Wrong (1995), and wrote music for films. Many of his fans were turned off by his punk-oriented album Animal Rights (1996).
