Cole was the middle of three sisters and was born in Baltimore, Maryland. Doris Freeland Cole, a retired kindergarten teacher who has dedicated her life to her children, and the Honorable Harry A. Cole, the first black judge on Maryland’s Court of Appeals, are her parents. Susan Hill, a vice president at Disney in Los Angeles, and Stephanie Hill, a vice president at Lockheed Martin in Maryland, are Cole’s sisters.
