Goldfrapp is a London-based English electronic music duo that formed in 1999. Alison Goldfrapp (vocals, synthesizer) and Will Gregory (synthesizer) make up the duet.
Felt Mountain, their debut studio album released in 2000, did not perform well despite favorable reviews and a Mercury Prize nomination. Goldfrapp’s second album, Black Cherry, was released in 2003 and featured glam rock and synth-pop influences. The album had a similar dance-oriented feel to their third album, Supernature. Supernature expanded Goldfrapp’s work into club music and achieved international chart success. The album spawned three number-one dance songs in the United States and was nominated for Best Electronic/Dance Album at the 49th Grammy Awards.
Seventh Tree, their fourth album, emphasized ambient and downtempo music inspired by nature and paganism, while Head First, their fifth album, found the trio exploring 1980s-influenced synth-pop. Head First also earned the duo their second Grammy nomination in 2010 for Best Electronic/Dance Album. In September 2013, Goldfrapp released their critically lauded sixth studio album, the folktronica-influenced Tales of Us. In March 2017, Goldfrapp released their seventh studio album, Silver Eye, which debuted at number six on the UK Albums Chart.
