Born on December 30, 1986, Elena Jane “Ellie” Goulding (/old/ GOHL-ding) is an English singer and songwriter. When she first met the record producers Starsmith and Frankmusik, her career really took off. Jamie Lillywhite then noticed her and hired her as her manager and A&R. An Introduction to Ellie Goulding, Goulding’s debut extended play, was released later that year after she signed with Polydor Records in July 2009.

She was the second artist to win the BBC’s annual Sound of… in 2010. In the same year, you can vote and take home the Critics’ Choice Award at the Brit Awards. Lights, her first studio album, was released in 2010 and has now sold over 850,000 copies in the UK. It debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart. The album was republished as Bright Lights in November 2010, and two singles were released from it: “Lights,” Goulding’s highest-charting song to date, and a rendition of Elton John’s “Your Song,” which peaked at No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
