Carly Rae Jepsen is a Canadian singer and songwriter who was born on November 21, 1985. Jepsen gained widespread recognition after ranking third on the fifth season of Canadian Idol in 2007 after pursuing musical theatre for most of her school and undergraduate years. Before it was released internationally in 2011, Jepsen released her folk-influenced debut studio album Tug of War in Canada in 2008.
Jepsen’s breakthrough came with the release of her critically acclaimed single “Call Me Maybe” in 2012. It was named the year’s best-selling single after selling over 18 million copies and peaking at number one in more than 19 nations. It also paved the way for significant record deals with Schoolboy Records and Interscope Records. Later that year, Jepsen’s second studio album, Kiss, was released. It featured the hit “Good Time” with Owl City, which peaked in the top ten in both Canada and the US charts.
In addition to being nominated for the Grammy Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, Polaris Music Prize, and People’s Choice Awards, Jepsen has won three Juno Awards, three Billboard Music Awards, and an Allan Slaight Award.
