Born on October 26, 1951, William Earl “Bootsy” Collins is an American vocalist and bass player.
With his pounding basslines and funny vocals, Collins rose to fame with James Brown in the early 1970s and then with Parliament-Funkadelic, solidifying himself as one of the top names and innovators in funk. Later, he created Bootsy’s Rubber Band, a P-Funk side project.[2] He frequently collaborated with artists from a range of genres, including dance music (Deee-“Groove Lite’s Is in the Heart”), electronic big beat (Fatboy Slim’s “Weapon of Choice”), and alternative metal (Praxis), among others. Together with the other 15 members of Parliament-Funkadelic, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Collins was named fourth on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 50 best bassists of all time in 2020.
