Known professionally as Grimes, Canadian musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer Claire Elise Boucher was born on March 17, 1988. Her early work has been characterized as including elements from electronic music, hip hop, and rock and ranging from “lo-fi R&B” to futuristic dance-pop. She frequently discusses feminism and science fiction topics in her lyrics. She has five studio albums out.
Grimes, who was born and raised in Vancouver before relocating to Montreal, started putting out music on his own in the late 2000s. In 2010, he released two albums on Arbutus Records, Geidi Primes, and Halfaxa. She later joined 4AD, and in 2012, after the publication of her third studio album, Visions, she became well-known. The singles “Genesis” and “Oblivion” are included in Visions, which won the Electronic Album of the Year Juno Award from the Canadian music industry. Her fourth studio album, Art Angels, was then published in 2015 and was praised by critics, winning albums of the year awards from various magazines. Miss Anthropocene, her fifth studio album, was released in 2020.
