Australian electronic music duo Empire of the Sun was founded in 2007. Luke Steele of the alternative rock group The Sleepy Jackson and Nick Littlemore of the electronic dance group Pnau have joined forces to form the duo.

Walking on a Dream, Empire of the Sun’s 2008 debut album, helped the group achieve international recognition and has received gold and double platinum certifications in the UK and Australia. The album produced a number of singles that reached the top of international singles charts, such as “We Are the People,” which peaked at number 14 on the UK Singles Chart, and “Walking on a Dream,” which peaked at number ten on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart and reached number 64 on the UK Singles Chart. Ice on the Dune, the band’s second album, was released in June 2013 and featured the lead single “Alive” on April 16. They have performed all over the world and are renowned for their flashy appearance and lavish stage productions. The band is signed to EMI Music Australia/Virgin.

The pair has won several Australian music prizes. Walking on a Dream, had 11 nominations for the 2009 ARIA Music Awards and took home seven trophies, including Album of the Year.
