A Canadian singer, songwriter, dancer, and television personality by the name of Shawn Desman was born Shawn Bosco Fernandes on January 12, 1982. In the 2000s and 2010s, Shawn was a mainstay of the Canadian R&B scene.
Desman began recording an album for BMG Music Canada when he was 18 years old, and the album was released in 2002. Three top ten hits on the Canadian charts (Shook, “Spread My Wings,” and “Get Ready”) were included in the self-titled breakthrough album. The record, “Spread My Wings,” a cover by the unreleased group Vega with Chilli of TLC, went on to receive gold certification in Canada.
The number one smash single “Let’s Go” was featured on his follow-up album, Back for More, which won a Juno Award for Best R&B Music. BMG fired him from the label after his second album was released. He got signed to Universal Music Canada because he seemed unfazed and positive about his future.
Shawn Desman participated in Drake’s All Canadian North Stars event at OVO Fest in July 2022, which also included a dozen other Canadian hip-hop and R&B singers. Desman received a call from Wax Records’ owner Jamie Appleby after posting the show’s announcement on Instagram, telling him that this was his big chance. Drake congratulated him on his performance and gave him encouragement to keep writing music after the performance in the hallway outside the green room.
