Yeat, a stage name for Noah Olivier Smith (born February 26, 2000), is a professional rapper and record producer from the United States. He became well-known in the middle of 2021 after the release of his mixtape 4L and first studio album Up 2 M, the latter of which featured the TikTok-famous songs “Money So Big,” “Gt Busy,” “Turban,” and “Twizzy Rich.” In 2022, he released the EP Lyf and his second studio album 2 Aliv, which debuted at positions 8 and 10 on the Billboard 200.
Yeat started creating music using vocals that were Auto-Tuned. He joined a rising number of rappers that used “anger beats” in 2021, adopting a more strident and synth-based sound. This style was influenced by the upbeat vocal performances and EDM-influenced beat choices by artists like Playboi Carti, particularly on Whole Lotta Red (2020). His vocal delivery has been compared to Young Thug, Future, and Playboi Carti. The latter two, according to Yeat, are some of his main sources of inspiration. He also referred to the American rapper T-Pain as “The GOAT of Auto-Tune” and said that he was one of his main influences growing up. Based on a vocal chain provided to him by frequent partner and musician Weiland, Yeat’s trademark voice setting.
Yeat is known for using unusual slang in his songs, coming up with terms like “twizzy,” “krank,” and “luh geky,” and frequently making references to Tonka in his lyrics. One of the people that inspired him to come up with these original phrases was his father, who when Yeat was a child would also invent words on his own.
Yeat has become identified with several Internet memes and trends because of specific characteristics of his music, particularly the frequent use of bell sounds in his tracks.
