American indie music group The Yeah Yeah Yeahs was founded in 2000 in New York City. The band is made up of drummer Brian Chase, guitarist Nick Zinner, and keyboardist Karen O (real name Karen Lee Orzolek). Second guitarist David Pajo (formerly of Slint and Tortoise), who joined as a traveling member in 2009 and took over for Imaad Wasif, completes them during live performances. The band’s moniker, according to an interview that aired on ABC’s Live from Central Park SummerStage series, was inspired by contemporary New York City slang. Five studio albums have been produced by the group; the first, Fever to Tell, was made public in 2003. The second, entitled Show Your Bones, was made available in 2006 and was ranked as NME’s second-best album of the year. It’s Blitz!, their third studio album, which came out in March 2009. The band received Grammy nominations for Best Alternative Music Album for each of its three albums. In April 2013, they released their fourth album, Mosquito, and in September 2022, they released Cool It Down.
