Wolf Alice is a London-based English rock band. Wolf Alice began as an acoustic duet in 2010 with singer Ellie Rowsell and guitarist Joff Oddie, but have since added bassist Theo Ellis and drummer Joel Amey.
Wolf Alice had their debut show, supporting April in the Shade, at Highbury Garage in December 2010, after Rowsell and Oddie met the band during an open mike at the Hope and Anchor in Islington. They debuted with “Fluffy” in February 2013 and followed it up with “Bros” in May. Blush, their debut EP, was published in October, and Creature Songs, their follow-up, was released in May 2014.
The band released the first song “Giant Peach” off their debut album My Love Is Cool in February 2015, which was released in June 2015. It features their 2014 hit “Moaning Lisa Smile,” which reached number nine on the Alternative Songs list in the United States in August 2015 and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance in 2016.
In September 2017, the band released their second studio album, Visions of a Life. It debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart and was universally praised by music reviewers. Multiple magazines named the album one of the finest of the year, and it received the 2018 Mercury Prize. Blue Weekend, the band’s third studio album, was released in June 2021. Wolf Alice received the Brit Award Best British Group in 2022.
