American heavy metal group W.A.S.P. was founded in 1982. They came into being in the Los Angeles heavy metal scene of the early 1980s. Although the band’s fame peaked in that decade, they have continued to release music and go on tour, making them one of the West Coast heavy metal bands with the longest careers. W.A.S.P. became well-known for its image, songs, and live performances with a shock rock concept. The RIAA awarded their first two albums, W.A.S.P. (1984) and The Final Command (1985), gold certification, and it is estimated that they have sold over twelve million records globally.
The Headless Children, W.A.S.P.’s fourth studio album, was their first to be completely free of overtly sexually explicit tracks when it was released on April 15, 1989. Before dropping off the charts after 13 weeks, the album peaked at No. 48 on the Billboard 200, the band’s highest chart position to date. Although it was W.A.S.P.’s most highly lauded album up to that point, it is currently the W.A.S.P. album with the most sales, according to a recent Lawless interview. Frankie Banali, a former drummer for Quiet Riot, played drums on the record.
