UB40 is an English reggae and pop band that formed in Birmingham, England in December 1978. The band has had over 50 singles on the UK Singles Chart and has had significant worldwide success. They were nominated four times for the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album and once for the Brit Award for Best British Group in 1984. Over 70 million albums have been sold globally by UB40. The initial line-up of the band included musicians of English, Welsh, Irish, Jamaican, Scottish, and Yemeni ancestry.

Their major singles include their debut “Food for Thought” and two Billboard Hot 100 number ones with “Red Red Wine” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love”. Both of these songs reached the top of the UK Singles Chart, as did the band’s rendition of “I Got You Babe,” which was recorded with Chrissie Hynde. Labour of Love (1983) and Promises and Lies (1993) were their two most successful albums, reaching number one on the UK Albums Chart. With 214 weeks each, UB40 and the English ska band Madness hold the record for the most weeks spent by a group on the UK singles chart during the 1980s.
