Twice is a South Korean girl group created by JYP Entertainment that goes by the names TWICE, Teuwaiseu in Korean, Touwaisu in Japanese, and Teuwaiseu in Korean. Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu are the other nine members of the group. Twice made its television debut on October 20, 2015, with the extended play (EP) The Story Begins. Twice was founded as part of the Sixteen (2015) television series. With the release of their debut studio album Twicetagram and its lead single “Likey” in 2017, Twice became the first female Korean act to concurrently top Billboard’s World Albums and World Digital Song Sales charts.
The group entered the US Billboard 200 with More & More and Eyes Wide Open in 2020, Taste of Love and Formula of Love: O+T=3 in 2021, and Between 1&2 in 2022 after joining forces with Republic Records for American promotions. They entered the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart with their first official English-language single, “The Feels,” which peaked at the 83rd and 80th spots on the charts, respectively. Their point choreography for songs like “Cheer Up” (2016), “TT” (2016), “Signal” (2017), and “What Is Love?” (2018) became dance crazes and viral memes that many celebrities mimicked. They have been labeled the next “Nation’s Girl Group.”
Twice were listed at number 54 as the only K-pop group in Variety’s Youth Impact Report 2016, which compiles a list of young performers who have had an impact on the industry in the previous year. At the Korean Popular Culture and Arts Awards in 2017, Twice got the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Commendation. They were then acknowledged as the sole Asian act on Billboard’s 21 Under 21 2017: Music’s Next Generation, an annual list that showcases some of the most influential young talents throughout the world in a variety of musical genres.
Taste of Love, the ninth extended play by Twice, became the first EP by a girl group to reach the top spot on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart in 2021. Additionally, it was the first EP by a girl group to peak at number 10 on the Billboard 200.
