Tokio Hotel is a German rock band that was formed in 2001 by Bill Kaulitz, guitarist Tom Kaulitz, bassist Georg Listing, and drummer Gustav Schäfer. Since its inception, the band’s music genres have been a pop rock and alternative rock; however, since 2014, the band has begun to perform electropop and synth-pop.
After releasing a demo album under the moniker “Devilish” and having their contract with Sony BMG Germany canceled, the band released Schrei, their first German-language album, on Universal Music Germany in 2005 as Tokio Hotel. Schrei sold over 500,000 copies worldwide and yielded four top-five singles in Germany and Austria.
In 2007, the band released Zimmer 483, their second German-language album, and Scream, their first English-language album, which sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide and helped the band win their first MTV Europe Music Award for Best InterAct. The former, Zimmer 483, produced three top-five singles in Germany, while the later, Scream, produced two top-twenty songs in new areas such as France, Portugal, Spain, and Italy.
