Abel Tesfaye, an R&B artist from Toronto, goes by the moniker The Weeknd. The Weeknd’s debut album, House of Balloons, was released in March 2011 and quickly became successful. The musician previously had a connection to the production company The Noise before collaborating with Illangelo and Doc McKinney.
However, Drake and his OVO team have been The Weeknd’s supporters from the start. Drake was really introduced to The Weeknd’s songs by Oliver El-Khatib of the OVO crew, and it was at that time that he fell in love with the singer’s vocals. Drake’s Twitter account ultimately contributed to The Weeknd’s early exposure, and the musician has since shot to fame after being highlighted in publications like Rolling Stone, MTV News, MuchMusic, and more.
On July 24, 2011, The Weeknd gave his debut performance at The Mod Club in Toronto. For Abel, this is just the beginning. As new details emerge, they will be added. Support the XO crew ’til we overdose.
