The War on Drugs is a 2005 American rock band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Adam Granduciel (vocals, guitar), David Hartley (bass guitar), Robbie Bennett (keyboards), Charlie Hall (drums), Jon Natchez (saxophone, keyboards), Anthony LaMarca (guitar), and Eliza Hardy Jones (keyboards) are the members of the band.
The War on Drugs, founded by Adam Granduciel and Kurt Vile, released their debut studio album, Wagonwheel Blues, in 2008. Vile left the band shortly after its release to pursue his solo career. Slave Ambient, the band’s second studio album, was released in 2011 with positive reviews and a lengthy tour.
Following considerable traveling and a time of loneliness and clinical depression for lead songwriter Granduciel, the band’s third album, Lost in the Dream, was released in 2014. The album received widespread critical acclaim and increased awareness upon its debut. During the recording process, previous collaborator Hall joined the band as its full-time drummer, with saxophone Natchez and extra guitarist LaMarca following the band on its global tour. The six-piece band signed with Atlantic Records and released their fourth album, A Deeper Understanding, in 2017, which received the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. In 2021, the band released its fifth album, I Don’t Live Here Anymore.
