The Rapture is a New York City-based American rock band that was established in 1998. Luke Jenner (lead vocals, guitar), Vito Roccoforte (drums, percussion), and Gabriel Andruzzi now make up the band. (keyboards, bass, saxophone, percussion). Mattie Safer played bass and shared lead vocal duties with Jenner in the original lineup (1999-2009). Safer and Jenner’s synchronized choruses became the band’s defining sound, appearing on several of the band’s best-known tracks.

The band draws inspiration from a variety of genres, including dance-punk, post-punk, acid house, disco, and electronica. They were forerunners of the early 2000s post-punk resurgence, combining their early post-punk sound with electronic and dance elements. The band has admitted that its music has Christian elements.
