The Human League are an English synth-pop band founded in 1977 in Sheffield. After beginning as an experimental electronic band, the group signed to Virgin Records in 1979 and went on to achieve considerable commercial success with their third album Dare in 1981, after reorganizing their lineup. The album included four chart-topping singles, including the UK/US number one “Don’t You Want Me?” In 1982, the band won the Brit Award for Best British Breakthrough Act. Other hits from the 1980s and 1990s were “Mirror Man,” “(Keep Feeling) Fascination,” “The Lebanon,” “Human” (a second US No. 1), and “Tell Me When.”
The Human League have produced nine studio albums, a remix album, a live album, six EPs, 29 singles, and thirteen compilation albums since 1978. They had six Top 20 albums and thirteen Top 20 singles in the UK, and by 2010, they had sold more than 20 million records worldwide. They are recognized as one of the major artists of the 1980s Second British Invasion of the United States as an early techno-pop outfit that garnered substantial MTV rotation.
