Rapper Tech N9ne (pronounced “tech nine”), born Aaron Dontez Yates on November 8, 1971, is from the United States. He established the record company Odd Music in 1999 along with his business partner Travis O’Guin. He has sold over two million records, and video games, television, and movies have all used his music. He received the Left Field Woodie honor in 2009 at the mtvU Woodie Awards.
His stage moniker is a reference to the TEC-9 semi-automatic weapon, which rapper Black Walt gave him as a nickname for his quick-rhyming chopper style. Later, Yates gave the word a deeper interpretation, saying that it stands for the finished technique of rhyme, with “tech” standing for method and “nine” for completion.
