Switchfoot is a San Diego, California-based American rock band. Jon Foreman (lead vocals, guitar), Tim Foreman (bass guitar, backing vocals), Chad Butler (drums, percussion), and Jerome Fontamillas make up the band. (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals). Switchfoot originally acquired global exposure with the inclusion of four of their songs in the 2002 film A Walk to Remember, following early successes in the Christian rock arena. This acclaim led to their big label debut, The Beautiful Letdown, which was released in 2003 and contained the songs “Meant to Live” and “Dare You to Move”. Over 2.6 million copies of the record were sold. They’ve subsequently been known for their dynamic live presentations, and their seventh studio album, Hello Hurricane, won a Grammy for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album in 2011.
The name “Switchfoot” is derived from a surfing word, according to Jon Foreman. “We all love to surf and have been surfing our entire lives, so the name made sense to us; to switch your feet means to take a new stance facing the opposite direction; it’s about change and movement, a different approach to life and music.”
