Sugarland is an Atlanta, Georgia-based country music duet. Jennifer Nettles (lead vocals) and Kristian Bush are the members of the duo (vocals, guitar, mandolin). Kristen Hall (vocals, guitar) was a founding member when they formed in 2002. Nettles had recorded with the group Soul Miner’s Daughter and Jennifer Nettles Band, Bush had recorded two albums as one half of the pair Billy Pilgrim, and Hall had recorded two solo albums. Nettles and Bush continued as a partnership after Hall left in 2006.
Between 2004 and 2010, Sugarland was signed to Mercury Nashville Records and released four studio albums, one Christmas album, and one live album for the label. These albums accounted for fifteen Billboard Hot Country Songs chart singles, including the number-one songs “Want To”, “Settlin’”, “All I Want To Do”, “Already Gone”, and “It Happens”. Nettles also appeared as a featured vocalist on Bon Jovi’s late 2005-early 2006 single “Who Says You Can’t Go Home,” which also charted on the country music charts.
The Recording Industry Association of America has certified all four of their studio albums for this label — Twice the Speed of Life, Enjoy the Ride, Love on the Inside, and The Amazing Machine — as platinum or higher (RIAA). The pair took a break in 2012, during which both Nettles and Bush released solo albums. They formally reunited in 2017 for Bigger, a studio album released by Big Machine Records.
