When his first song, “Fast,” from the Los Angeles talent Sueco, became popular in the spring of 2019, he changed from being a background beatmaker to an artist in the spotlight. The irreverent and subtly funny midtempo banger “Fast” was the soundtrack for millions of videos created by fans when it gained popularity on the short-form video app TikTok. For his 2019 debut Miscreant, a chaotic fusion of alternative sounds, he signed with Atlantic Records. The full-length It Was Fun While It Lasted was released in 2022 after a barrage of singles.
By his early 20s, he had established himself as a music producer, well known for his beat-making tutorial videos that used bizarre or unexpected sound sources. The beatmaker, who used to go by Sueco the Child, occasionally incorporated vocals into his productions. Early singles, like “Henny in the Trunk” from 2018, had an ambient vibe to go with his stumbling flow. The much grimmer “Fast” was put online by Sueco in April 2019, and it quickly gained popularity on social media. A contract with Atlantic Records resulted from the surge in popularity, and in June of that same year, a remix of the popular song with additional lines from Offset and A Boogie wit da Hoodie was released.
Miscreant, an eight-song album, came next, and over the next few years, Sueco continued to steadily release singles. In 2020, these new songs included “Juice” and “Primadona,” and in 2021, “Story of My Life” by Illenium and Trippie Redd. “SOS” with Travis Barker and “Paralyzed” was also released. Some of these tracks were later included on his 2022 full-length It Was Fun While It Lasted, which debuted in the Billboard 200’s second half. Later in the year, he followed it up with hits like “Next Ex” and “Funeral.”
