Souls of Mischief is an Oakland, California-based hip-hop act that is also a member of the hip-hop collaborative Hieroglyphics. The Souls of Mischief was founded in 1991 by rappers A-Plus, Opio, Phesto, and Tajai.
Tajai, an East Oakland native, began rhyming with future bandmate A-Plus while they were both in elementary school at the age of eight. Later in junior high school, Tajai and Phesto met. Tajai enlisted his best buddy Phesto in middle school, and A-Plus enlisted Opio in high school before making its major-label debut on Jive Records in 1993 with the well-received album 93 ’til Infinity.
Together with emcees Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Casual, Pep Love, Jaybiz, and producer Domino, the trio is a member of the hip-hop collective Hieroglyphics. The band appeared as full members on all three of Hieroglyphics’ studio albums: 3rd Eye Vision in 1998, Full Circle in 2003, and The Kitchen in 2013.
93 ’til Infinity is the group’s highest-ranking album to date (#17 Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums; #85 Billboard 200) and was selected as one of The Source magazine’s Top 100 Rap albums in January 1998.
