Divine Ikubor, also known by his stage name Rema, is a Nigerian musician, rapper, and vocalist. He was born on May 1, 2000. With the release of the song “Dumebi,” he became famous. He then inked a record deal with Mavin Records subsidiary Jonzing World in 2019. With Alpha P, he began his musical career in churches. In 2018, Rema shared a popular freestyle on Instagram to the song “Gucci Gang” by D’Prince. D’Prince saw the message and flew him to Lagos to offer the young musician a record deal. In 2019, Rema agreed to a record deal with D’Prince’s Jonzing World, a division of Mavin Records owned by music executive Don Jazzy. In 2019, he followed up with the self-titled debut EP “Rema,” which reached the top spot on Apple Music Nigeria.
The music video for “Dumebi,” a standout track from his self-titled EP, featuring a cameo by Diana Eneje, was released on May 21 by Jonzing World and Mavins. Ademola Falomo directed the video, which has received 60 million YouTube views thus far. Later that summer, in 2019, one of his other EP songs that was particularly well-liked had a boost in popularity after being included to former American president Barack Obama’s summer playlist.
