Omar Samuel Pasley (born 3 September 1986) is a Jamaican singer better known by his stage name OMI (/omi/ OH-mee). He is best known for his worldwide smash “Cheerleader,” which was remixed by German DJ Felix Jaehn. He is presently signed to Sony Music’s Ultra Music label and released his debut album, Me 4 U, in 2015.
Omar Samuel Pasley was born in the Clarendon parish. He settled in Kingston after being found by dancehall mogul Clifton Dillon (aka Specialist) and signed to Oufah, a Jamaican indie label. “Standing On All Threes” was his first recorded single, and it was accompanied by a music video. OMI wrote his eventual smash song “Cheerleader” in 2008. He eventually recorded it, performed it live, and released it in 2012. It was released in Jamaica alongside a low-budget, high-concept video made in Oregon during OMI’s first trip to the United States, and it became a minor hit in Jamaica as well as popular in Hawaii and Dubai. Despite never releasing an album, OMI had several local singles in Jamaica, including “Take It Easy,” “Fireworks” (which had a music video), and “Color of My Lips,” which included Busy Signal, a well-known Jamaican dancehall, ska, and reggae singer.
