The song smashed numerous sales records and was one of the most popular songs of the year. With the singles “Deja Vu” and “Good 4 U” as a follow-up, she released her debut solo studio album, Sour (2021), to critical and commercial acclaim. She also won numerous awards, including three Grammys. In 2022, a Disney+ documentary titled Olivia Rodrigo: Driving Home 2 U that followed documented Sour’s creative process.
Rodrigo has two Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles, one Billboard 200 number-one album, and five Recording Industry Association of America multi-Platinum certifications to his credit (RIAA). The soprano voice type belongs to Rodrigo. Media outlets frequently refer to Rodrigo as a pop musician who performs indie pop, teen pop, and pop rock genres. The CEO of Interscope/Geffen Records lauded Rodrigo’s songwriting more than her “potential star quality,” which is why she chose to join the label. Rodrigo has said that she wants to be a songwriter rather than “the biggest pop star that ever lived.” Laura Snapes, a music journalist, referred to Rodrigo as a “flag-bearer” for a new generation of songwriters who lean toward power ballads “that are as emotional as ever, but project that emotion inward, trading bombast for hush,” and who “express more realistic perspectives than resilient” through their music.
