American singer-songwriter Priscilla Renea Hamilton, better known by her stage name Muni Long (pronounced “money long”), was born on September 14, 1988. Her tune “Hrs & Hrs” won the Grammy for Best R&B Performance in 2023[2]. Her solo debut studio album, Jukebox, was released by Capitol Records in 2009 under her real name. She subsequently spent the next ten years creating songs with other musicians, including the singles “California King Bed” by Rihanna, “Worth It” by Fifth Harmony, “Love So Soft” by Kelly Clarkson, “Imagine” by Ariana Grande, and the number-one single “Timber” by Pitbull featuring Kesha.
Returning to her solo career, Hamilton released Colourful (2018), her second studio album, on Thirty Tigers and Sony Music. With this record, she experimented with Americana and country soul genres. With the single “Hrs and Hrs,” which peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 after she changed her name to Muni Long, she had significant commercial success as an independent performer and eventually agreed to a record deal with Def Jam Records.
She won the Grammy for “Hrs and Hrs” in 2023 for Best R&B Performance. She has also been nominated for three more Grammy Awards during the course of her career, including Best New Artist, Best R&B Single (“Hrs & Hrs”), and Album of the Year for her work on H.E.R.’s Back of My Head (2021).
