South Korean boy band Monsta X was created as a result of the reality competition No. Starship Entertainment’s Mercy. Shownu, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, Joohoney, and I.M are the group’s six current members; former member Wonho quit the group in October 2019.
Trespass, the group’s debut EP, was released on May 14 of that year. The Clan Pt. 1, the band Monsta X’s debut studio album and the conclusion to the Clan series, was released in March 2017. 2.5: The Wrap-Up Section. The group has had eight of its Korean albums and extended plays certified platinum by the Korea Music Content Association since 2019, and since 2018, four of its Japanese singles have received gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan. The band’s debut English album, All About Luv, debuted in 2020 and reached positions five and seven on the US Billboard 200 and US Rolling Stone Top 200, respectively.
They had a reputation for having an aggressive style that mixed pop, EDM, and hip-hop since their debut. The fourth generation of K-pop was influenced by this aggressive sound, with “songs focused around loud, clattering, electronic instrumentals, nasty rap verses, and striking vocals” and breaking gender stereotypes before it was fashionable. They also got the qualifier “Next Generation Beast Idol” added to their name.
