Swedish extreme metal group Meshuggah was founded in Ume in 1985. Metallien was the group’s original name. Lead singer Jens Kidman, guitarists Fredrik Thordendal and Mrten Hagström, drummer Tomas Haake, and bassist Dick Lövgren make up the band’s current line-up. The group has put out nine studio albums, six EPs, and eight music videos since its inception. Immutable, their most recent studio album, was released by Atomic Fire Records in April 2022.
Meshuggah received two Swedish Grammis Award nominations for their albums Catch Thirtythree in 2006 and obZen in 2009, respectively. The group’s song “Clockworks” was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2018 in the “Best Metal Performance” category. The group has played at a number of international events, including Ozzfest and Download, and they also went on the “Ophidian Trek” and the “obZen world tour” from 2008 to 2010.
