Tony Brown and Jonathan Jay established Maverick City Music, an American group that specializes in modern worship music, and they are both from Atlanta. 2019 saw the release of two extended plays by the collective, Maverick City, Vol. Maverick City, Vol. 1, and Mav. 2. Two live albums were made available in 2020 by Maverick City Music: Maverick City Vol. 1 of 3, as well as Maverick City, Vol. 3 Pt. 2, with “Man of Your Word” and “Promises” as its lead singles. The group later released You Hold It All Together (2020), their first joint EP with Upperroom, and then the holiday-themed EP Maverick City Christmas (2020).
In 2021, Maverick City Music released a number of works, the most notable of which was Move Your Heart, their second collaborative EP with Upperroom; Old Church Basement, a joint album with Elevation Worship that featured the hit songs “Jireh,” “Talking to Jesus,” and “Wait on You”; and Jubilee: Juneteenth Edition, which was both commercially successful and received a great deal of positive press. Five Grammy Awards, four GMA Dove Awards, one Billboard Music Award, and one Soul Train Music Award are among Maverick City Music’s distinctions.
