Gandhi Bilel Djuna, born 6 May 1986, is a Congolese rapper, singer, and composer better known by his stage name Maître Gims and, more recently, simply Gims. He grew up in France and now splits his time between France and Morocco. He is a former member of the hip-hop group Sexion d’Assaut, and his debut major album, Subliminal, was published in 2013. The album sold over a million copies in France and reached number two on the Syndicat National de l’Édition Phonographique. His other two albums, My coeur avait raison in 2015 and Ceinture noire in 2018, both hit number one in France and Belgium (Wallonia) and climbed in the top 40 in a number of European nations, including Denmark, Italy, and Switzerland.
After appearing in Mohamed Ramadan’s song “Ya habibi,” he was named International Talent of the Year in the Unique International Arab Festivals Awards in 2020. Gims: On the Record, a documentary covering the last 10 years of his career, will be aired on Netflix on September 17, 2020. In 2022, he and Ozuna sang the song “Arhbo” at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which they also performed during the closing ceremony.
