American heavy metal group Machine Head hails from Oakland, California. Robb Flynn, the band’s sole original member and lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist, founded the group in 1991. Machine Head was one of the forerunners in the new wave of American heavy metal thanks to its aggressive musicianship. The band’s current members are drummer Matt Alston, bassist Jared MacEachern, lead guitarist Wacaw Kietyka, and Flynn. Former band members include drummers Tony Costanza, Chris Kontos, and Dave McClain, bassist Adam Duce, and lead guitarists Phil Demmel, Ahrue Luster, and Logan Mader. Mader and Kontos traveled with the group in 2019 and 2020 as part of Burn My Eyes’ 25th-anniversary tour (1994).
Machine Head has released 10 studio albums, two live albums, one video album, 13 singles, and 15 music videos. The United Kingdom has awarded silver certification to four of the band’s studio albums, and Bloodstone & Diamonds, the band’s highest peak on the Billboard 200, was at number 21. The group has sold more than three million records globally as of 2013.
