Wasalu Muhammad Jaco (born February 16, 1982) is an American rapper, singer, record producer, and entrepreneur better known by his stage name Lupe Fiasco. He rose to prominence in 2006 as a result of the success of his debut album, Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor. Using his true name, he also plays as the frontman of the rock band Japanese Cartoon. Fiasco was the chief executive officer of 1st and 15th Entertainment as an entrepreneur.
The lead track, “Superstar,” earned his first Billboard Hot 100 top 40 hits. His third album, Lasers, was released in May 2011 after a two-year delay to mixed reviews; however, it became his first album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200. His highest charting song, “The Show Goes On,” which peaked at number 9, preceded the album. Drill Music in Zion, his most recent album, was released in June 2022.
Fiasco has ventured into various businesses besides music, like fashion. Righteous Kung-Fu and Trilly & Truly are his clothing lines, and he has developed footwear for Reebok. He has been involved in philanthropic efforts like the Summit on the Summit trip, and in 2010 he produced a benefit single for Haiti disaster victims. Fiasco is also known for his anti-establishment sentiments, which he has voiced in interviews and in his music.
