Little Big Town is a vocal group from Homewood, Alabama that performs country music. Since its inception in 1998, the group has had the same four members: Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman (née Roads), Phillip Sweet, and Jimi Westbrook. Their musical approach is largely based on four-part vocal harmonies, with all four musicians taking turns as lead vocals.
Little Big Town launched its self-titled debut on Monument Records in 2002, following a recording contract with Mercury Nashville Records that resulted in no singles or albums. Before leaving the label, the group had two small country chart hits. Clint Black’s independent record company, Equity Music Group, signed the band in 2005. The Road to Here, their second album, was released that year and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Their third album, A Place to Land, was released by Equity and then re-issued by Capitol Nashville after Equity folded in 2008.
Their albums accounted for 24 singles on Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay, including No. 1 singles “Pontoon” and “Better Man,” as well as top 10 hits “Boondocks”, “Bring It On Home”, “Little White Church”, “Tornado”, “Day Drinking”, and “Girl Crush”.
