Chinese pianist Lang Lang, born on June 14, 1982, has performed in China, North America, Europe, and other locations with renowned orchestras. He has been performing since the 1990s, and the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, and some prestigious US orchestras have hired him as their first Chinese pianist. He was dubbed “the largest, most thrilling young keyboard talent I have experienced in many years of watching piano performances” by a Chicago Tribune music critic. One of the most accomplished classical musicians of the modern era is Lang, in the opinion of many.
In 2009, Time magazine included him in its list of the 100 most influential people in the world. In 2012, Gramophone magazine inducted him into its Hall of Fame. He was designated as the Recording Academy’s Cultural Ambassador to China in 2008. More recently, Lang was selected to represent the world as an official ambassador at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. In 2004, Lang was chosen as an International Goodwill Ambassador by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). He was chosen by the Chinese government to serve as the All-China Youth Federation’s vice president.
