Lainey Denay Wilson, an American actress, and singer-songwriter specializing in country music were born on May 19, 1992. Before moving to Nashville, Tennessee, to seek a career as a country performer, Wilson began performing at a young age. She first published her album in 2014, and on the Lone Chief label, she did so again in 2016. In 2019, Wilson published an extended play (EP) that featured the song “Things a Man Oughta Know” after securing a publishing deal. It was released as a single by the BBR Music Group in 2020 and finally peaked at the top of the American country songs chart.
Wilson’s music has a strong country influence, but it also borrows from pop, southern rock, modern country, and classic country. Wilson’s style, as described by AllMusic’s Mark Deming, is “tough but heartfelt contemporary country with an edge that has its roots in vintage Southern rock and classic rock, as well as a splash of modern-day pop.” Wilson’s voice is clear and strong, with an unapologetically Southern accent. Dolly Parton has highly influenced Wilson, paying homage to her in the self-composed single “WWDD,” which Taste of Country described as “a blend between easy listening and hard truths” Wilson describes her own musical style as “bell-bottom country” (What Would Dolly Do). She also acknowledges Lee Ann Womack as having influenced her musical style and career.
