Mohandas Dewese (born August 8, 1962) is an American rapper, songwriter, and actor better known by his stage name Kool Moe Dee. He rose to prominence in the 1980s as a part of one of hip hop’s pioneering groups, the Treacherous Three, and later as a solo artist. He is regarded as one of the forefathers of the new jack swing sound. Throughout his career, he recorded seven studio albums (five of which were solo), the most recent being 1994’s Interlude.
Big Daddy Kane, Beastie Boys, KRS-One, Rakim, Will Smith, N.W.A, Tupac Shakur, Nas, and Jay-Z, among others, were influenced by his quick and aggressive rap style. “Go See the Doctor,” “Wild Wild West,” and “How Ya Like Me Now” are among his most renowned tracks.
Kool Moe Dee was placed No. 33 on the list of the 50 Greatest MCs of All Time by About.com (1987–2007).
