Australian rock group King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard was founded in Melbourne, Victoria, in 2010. Stu Mackenzie, Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Cook Craig, Joey Walker, Lucas Harwood, and Michael Cavanagh make up the band’s current roster. They have a reputation for experimenting with many musical genres, putting on exciting live performances, and amassing a large catalog, having put out 23 studio albums, 14 live albums, three compilations, and three EPs.
The group issued two more microtonal studio albums in the 2020s, K.G. & L.W. – and the synth-based dream pop album Butterfly 3000, in addition to a number of live CDs, a concert DVD, and two collections (all independently published). The group’s second drummer and manager, Eric Moore, disbanded the group in 2020 to concentrate on managing Flightless, the group’s record label. King Gizzard published their debut double album Omnium Gatherum, Created in Timeland, in 2022. In October of the same year, they also released three additional albums, Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava, Laminated Denim, and Changes.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard were listed as the 21st hardest-working musicians in the world in a 2019 research by the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance. This was obtained as a result of the 113 live performances they made both domestically and overseas between January 2018 and August 2019.
